Directory & Computer Update 2008 - Members & Associate Members Only

The new Hosanna Lutheran Church & School directory is here! If you did not pick yours up at church contact the office to arrange for pickup.

We update our Church Directory and also our computer database frequently. We need to make sure every family's address and phone number is correct in our computer. Please fill out the form below (even if your address has not changed recently please fill out the complete form). Please download the form, bring to church and put on the secretary's desk. Thank you.

Hosanna Choir needs you!
Our wonderful choir here at Hosanna is in need of more voices. Are you that person? Do you love to sing? Then we have a spot for you in the choir loft. All voice parts are needed…Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass! Don't let the fact that you can't read music be a reason not to join. Our choir members are more than willing to assist our newcomers. Choir rehearsals begin on Wednesday, August 20th at 7 p.m. Rehearsal last till 8:30 p.m. We hope you will consider joining us as we praise our Lord in Song! Any questions please see John Snyder or another member of the choir.

We Need Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to help with:
- Ushering - 7:30 & 10:30 a.m. services call the Church Office
- Greeters - For all worship services
- Assistants for HOLY Communion

CARTS Update

Bashas' "Shop & Give", formerly was the "Thanks a Million" program which gives an additional 1% of your shopping dollars back to Hosanna over and above 6% paid from the rechargeable gift cards.

The program has a new look and Bashas' will be promoting the program in their stores and throughout the community. Most importantly, they have increased the maximum donation amount that Hosanna can earn - from $2,500 to $5,000!

The program begins September 1, 2008 to March 31, 2009

On September 1, 2008 link your Bashas' Thank You Card to Hosanna's group ID number 23816. Do this at any Bashas' checkout or service counter. You only have to link your Thank You Card to our group ID once a year and the link remains active until March 31.

The “Bread of Life” Hosanna cookbooks are still available this year for the holidays. Discounted price is only $5 each. Visit the CARTS table to purchase one or several as they make great gifts.

You Can Help!
We need your extra and used materials such as Devotionals, Portals of Prayers. Guide Post, Bibles, LWML Quarterlies, etc. There is a box in the Narthex for them. Please remove your name from materials you donate. They will be given to prison ministries and social ministries as needed. If questions please call the Hosanna Lutheran Church Office (480) 984-1414. Fellowship Reminder
The HOSANNA Morning Fellowship Committee is sponsoring the "Continental Breakfast" each Sunday after the first and also second services. In addition to regular coffee, decaffeinated coffee is also available. Please ask the server if decaffeinated coffee is desired. All are welcome.

Flower Calendar 2008
The Flowers Calendars for 2008 is in the back of the Church on the counter for you to sign-up for those special days you would like to celebrate and remember someone with flowers. Please fill-in your name, reason for the flowers and phone number for the Altar and /or Baptismal flowers. Also, the Altar Flowers may be shared, (please indicate whether you want 1 or 2 bouquets).

The cost for the Altar bouquets is $30 (or $15 each); the bouquet placed on the Baptismal font is $20. Call our "Flower Lady" Lois, at Hosanna Lutheran Church for any special orders, (cost varies). Make check payable to HOSANNA Lutheran Church; an envelope for payment is located by the flower calendar; put it in the offering plate.

Get On With Your Life - But you can't
You may grieve the loss of a loved one for years. And the first year can be all downhill. Stephen Ministers are trained and willing to care for you through this time of great loss.

To find out more about Stephen Ministry or to receive a Stephen Minister's care, call Pastor Scott, or Paul and Linda Steinbart at the Hosanna Church Office (480) 984-1414. (You may also call for a friend who you think may benefit from a Stephen Minister, but only do so AFTER you have asked your friend's permission to make such a referral).

Tax Law Changes for Contributions
Effective August 17, 2006, any cash donations not made via your church envelope (such as cash in the collection plate) will no longer be allowed as a Contribution Deduction on your income tax. The IRS used to okay these amounts if they were tracked in writing by the individuals giving the money, but as of August 17, 2006 these donations must be receipted by the church or you must have a bank record (cancelled check) to support your deduction claim. As you will receive an annual Contribution Statement as a receipt, the best way to substantiate your deduction is to use your envelopes.

Another change is that for persons 70 ½ years old, for 2006 and 2007, a tax-free “qualified charitable distribution” of up to $100,000 from an IRA may be made to a church or other charity. If you are interested in this, please check with Hosanna Lutheran Church for the details that we have.
